Why health insurance is important

So many people are asking themselves is it really necessary that I buy health insurance. They think because they are never sick, they are just throwing money away on premiums every year. And since the premiums continue to rise, they think about dropping insurance more and more.

Nobody can predict an illness. It can stike anytime and anyone. You are foolish to believe you will remain illness or accident free forever. Think about Murphy’s Law. I have heard the nightmarish stories of people who thought like that.

You could say your monthly premium for insurance is not only buying you and your family the coverage they need but also comfort in the fact that you will be okay if medical issues arise. It is essentially a safeguard against financial doom. There are many things to consider when pondering the dilemma of being uninsured.

One little symptom can land you at the doctor with expensive tests being run, if there is not a very clear diagnosis. It may not be much, but a doctor will want to rule out things. Not having insurance and paying for these tests can cause undue stress. And we all know stress can make us sick.

Let’s say you had a cough and runny nose. You go to the doctor and if you have no insurance it will cost about $90 depending on where you live. Maybe no big deal to your finances. but, lets say it turned into something worse, like pnemeonia. It could easily cost thousands.

If you are so concerened with throwing money away or you just can’t afford the health insurance at least look into a catastrophic plan. This type of plan is low cost and will still cover the big stuff. And the big stuff can happen to anybody!

If you need the traditional coverage and you like co-pays and prescription coverage you have a few choices. You could go with a high deductible, saving you bundles on premium. You may also go with a limited plan, that limits your visits.

No matter, your situation there is no good reason not to have coverage. If you are low income their are government funded options as well. For those that do not have employer group insurance you can purchase individual insurance through many insurance companies.
